Project FloatingAbode Diary

16 November, 2000

Short update. I've been doing other things at weekends so not much progress. I went to Holland to visit my family and I went sailing in the Solent in winds gusting to force 9! As most of you know and have experienced, we've been having some extreme weather. I've been fairly unaffected but:

This is Uisce floating about 2 to 3 feet higher than normal during the height of the floods.

This is the walkway to the car park from Uisce. It looks just about passable in normal shoes until you stand on it and soggily realise that the walkway is actually floating by about 4"!!

Moving on to some of the jobs I've managed to get done:

These are the cosmetic parts of my stove. They've been sandblasted back to bare metal and then sprayed with Very High Temperature paint as used for car exhaust manifolds. I've chosen silver rather than black just to be different. It'll radiate less but I'm sure it'll keep the boat nice and cosy nonetheless. Note the repaired door in the lower left corner of the picture. I've now taken all of the stove apart prior to reassembly.

This is the collar from the top of the stove. The flue pipe had a diameter that was just a little bit too large to fit inside so you can see where I've machined a larger diameter on a lathe. Now a snug fit.

Finally, this is why I'm concentrating on the stove all of a sudden! About 4mm of frost on the roof illustrates how cold it's getting now.
