Project FloatingAbode Diary

26 March, 2000

Progress over the weekend was good - despite problems on Friday with wood deliveries from Ridgeons, a local building materials supplier. Besides difficulties with taking and later modifying my order, they took my delivery (which did not contain the most important bits that I had ordered) away because there was nobody on site to pay for it even though I had already paid (on Tuesday). The wood they eventually delivered was soaking wet, discoloured, and so knotty that some of it fell apart as I carried it inside. By that time, I just had to use it as I had no time to make alternative arrangements. I was furious. I might relate their side of the story, or an apology if one is forthcoming, if I can find the time to complain officially.

All was not bad, however. Screwfix, www.screwfix.com , have been excellent, providing me with very good value tools and screws... and 4mm drill bits, of which I have now used somewhere in the region of 30!

Back to Uisce though..

The weather was mixed but with some good patches of sunshine so I managed to dry out the wood a little bit. With lots of help from Heather, most of the battening is complete. All of the ceiling battening is done thankfully - drilling and screwing into steel above your head is not nice (There's around 200 screws in the ceiling battening alone)! The rest will take around 30 minutes to complete. We also have some temporary floorboards that make moving around a lot easier.

Polyurethane spray foam insulation is happening on Friday. Steel front doors are being welded in on Wednesday. That's all for now.. if you can wait, a 1.38 meg animation will load up showing you the weekend's activities. Please note that nobody was shot in the making of this film. In the meantime, for your enjoyment, this was the view from my boat at the weekend:
